- Heat the oven to 200 C and butter a small baking dish.
- Layer the potato matchsticks, ham strips and chopped onion in the dish, seasoning the layers lightly with salt and pepper.
- Mix the cream and milk and pour the mixture evenly over the layers.
- Scatter the breadcrumbs on top and dot with the remaining butter.
- Bake for about 45 minutes until the potato is tender and the top is golden. Let it rest a few minutes before serving.
